The simulated reenactment of the deaths of the youths Anderbal Campos Bernardo Júnior, 21, and Willian Jones Faramilio da Silva Júnior, 18, who were shot by the Military Police on May 6, 2022, was postponed for the third time in Londrina. The proceeding was scheduled for the morning of this Tuesday (10), at the Ayrton Senna Autodrome, but was canceled by the Civil Police due to rain.

The reconstruction was requested by the victims’ families within the investigation into the deaths. The first attempt to carry out the proceeding was scheduled for April of last year, but was postponed after a request from the Military Police, who claimed a lack of personnel because the date coincided with the opening of ExpoLondrina.

Subsequently, the Civil Police set the reenactment for October, this time in the courtyard of the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Londrina. However, on the scheduled date, the defense of the officers involved did not accept the participation of the survivor of the incident nor the filming of the proceeding, which led the responsible police chief to postpone the procedure again.

The new attempt would have taken place this Tuesday at the autodrome, but it ended up being suspended. According to the families’ lawyer, Marcus Vinícius Marques, the participants arrived at the site and were informed of the cancellation. “It had been agreed that it would be today; they let us get here to tell us the reenactment would not take place,” he said.

There is still no new date set. According to the prosecutor in the case, Jorge Barreto, it will be up to the case’s police chief and the responsible expert to set a new date. Asked whether there is a possibility that the proceeding will be carried out at the place of the deaths, Barreto replied that the hypothesis is “practically ruled out.” The report was unable to contact the police chief.

Debate over the location of the proceeding

The families and their representatives argue that the reenactment of the events should be done at the place where the deaths occurred, alongside the PR-445, near the State University of Londrina (UEL). According to Marques, carrying out the procedure in another location compromises the technical accuracy of the investigation.

“The law determines that the reenactment be done where the events occurred, to come closer to reality. Issues such as topography, lighting, and distance are technically better represented on site,” he said.

The private expert Eduardo Llano, hired by the families and who came from São Paulo to accompany the proceeding, also argues that the reconstruction should take place at the original scene. “A simulated reenactment of the events has the obligation to be done at the place where the events occurred to analyze elements such as lighting, visibility, and speed. Doing it here is not a simulated reenactment, it is a simulated show,” he criticized.

According to him, these variables can be decisive for understanding the dynamics of the police action.

Accounts of what happened

According to the investigation, the three youths were in a Chevrolet Cruze stolen in the morning of the same day. Anderbal was driving the vehicle and Willian was in the passenger seat. A third occupant, who was in the back seat, survived despite having been hit by several shots.

The case occurred around 17:00 alongside the PR-445. In total, about 50 shots were fired at the car.

In a statement to the Civil Police, the survivor stated that the officers approached the vehicle shooting and that none of the occupants was armed. He also said that the officers allegedly altered the crime scene, removing the youths’ bodies from the car and placing weapons inside the vehicle.

The private expert hired by the families also questions the validity of that evidence. According to him, the alleged weapons attributed to the youths are said to have appeared hours after the incident. “If the scene is manipulated, you cannot be certain of a fact,” he said.

None of the three youths was recognized by the owner of the Cruize as the perpetrators of the robbery.

Pain and indignation of the families

Relatives of the victims accompanied the attempt to carry out the reconstruction this Tuesday. For them, the successive postponements prolong the suffering. Anderbal’s mother, Valdirene da Silva, said she left home without sleeping to attend the proceeding and described the cancellation as frustrating. “It was a circus. We want the reconstruction to happen the right way, on site. Then we come here and find our children’s killers laughing in our faces,” she said.

Willian’s grandmother, Maria Lopes, was also at the autodrome but said the Police prevented her from entering. “We have been suffering for almost four years. The pain does not lessen with time; that’s a lie. Every day we bleed,” she said. She maintains that the family remains mobilized for the case to be clarified. “We want earthly justice and God’s justice.”
